Cashless tipping is heading for a breakthrough as European tech startup JustTip makes gains in the U.S. market following its latest win at the 2022 Tech Excellence Awards.

With the digital payments market expanding rapidly in the U.S. and around the world, people are increasingly spending money through their smartphones wherever they are. This is affecting how businesses and their clients interact, paving the way for new disruptive tech to make a difference with cashless tipping.

Having seen the impact of the pandemic on hospitality in their native Ireland, two 20-year-olds, Ciara Walsh and James Fahy set out to disrupt the space with wireless payment technology – with the aim of helping people in hospitality receive tips at bars, nightclubs, restaurants, hotels and even music concerts.

This week, JustTip was awarded Best New Tech Startup at the prestigious Tech Excellence Awards in Dublin, which recognized the company’s achievements since it was launched just last year.

Having built up a client list of more than 180 businesses according to the company, JustTip like many emerging tech startups in the fintech space, is looking to make payments between service providers and clients more frictionless.

With payment methods like Google and Apple Pay already making their way onto smartphones, companies like JustTip are seeking to build on the transparency of cashless payments and how they can empower businesses, while helping their staff receive an incremental new source of revenue from the people they serve.

For businesses, JustTip’s adoption means that employees can receive tip deposits straight into their accounts. By supporting and retaining their staff through another income source – cashless tipping has become a win-win for both employers and workers, and is helping to drive a recovery in the restaurant sector among others.

James Fahy, co-founder of JustTip speaking with reporters this week said, “Covid decimated the hospitality industry so Ciara and I founded JustTip to ensure service workers across all sectors could get the rewards that they have so clearly earnt and deserved. It was, and will remain so, the right thing to do.”

“This award win is a substantial endorsement of our technology, our team, and our values. Now we need to scale the business for growth to bring JustTip to all those in society who need the service the most.”
