Spotify is launching a new feature called Playlist Notes, enabling both professional curators and individual users to add written context to their audio collections. The update seeks to provide deeper insight into the reasoning and stories behind specific track selections within the streaming platform.

The company’s editorial team will use the tool to explain the cultural relevance or significance of certain tracks on major playlists, including Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop. Accompanying this feature is the introduction of Editor Profiles, which showcase an editor’s top tracks, albums, and various playlist contributions.

Individual users can also add personal notes to tracks, podcast episodes, and audiobooks in their own or collaborative playlists through mobile devices. These notes, which can be used to document memories or share recommendations, are visible to anyone with access to the specific playlist. On mobile devices, users can add these notes by selecting the option within the menu of a specific track, podcast episode, or audiobook.

The editor-led notes and profiles are currently being rolled out to Free and Premium users aged 16 and older in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, the functionality for user-curated playlist notes is expanding across iOS and Android devices in more than 100 markets worldwide.
