Minecraft is scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 27, bringing enhanced graphical capabilities to the popular sandbox game.
The new version will feature a default visual experience known as Vibrant Visuals, which includes improved lighting and shadow effects. These visual enhancements are expected to be compatible with supported content within the Minecraft Marketplace, though the feature will be unavailable during certain gameplay modes, such as split-screen play and within specific Marketplace worlds.
Minecraft, a sandbox-style video game, has experienced a phenomenal rise to popularity since its initial release in 2009. Created by Markus Persson, a Swedish game developer, the game was first made available as an indie project, but it quickly gained traction and became a cultural phenomenon. The Super Mario Mash-Up pack, which is exclusive to Nintendo versions of the game, is also slated for an update to take advantage of the improved graphics. This pack allows players to explore iconic locations such as Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza within a custom Mario-themed environment featuring unique music and skins.
Existing owners of Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch system will be able to access a digital upgrade path for the new hardware. Detailed information regarding the upgrade process is expected to be released in the future.
