The United States reaffirmed its commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty on Monday, marking the 35th anniversary of the nation’s independence from the Soviet Union.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on the occasion, acknowledging the milestone that dates back to Ukraine‘s declaration of independence on Aug. 24, 1991.

The message emphasized the enduring cooperation between the United States and Ukraine and underscored the U.S. commitment to supporting a negotiated settlement to the conflict with Russia to establish a durable and lasting peace.

Beyond security assistance, the State Department indicated a continued focus on strengthening economic ties and fostering a path toward prosperity for both nations. The announcement also recognized the resilience, innovation, and courage shown by the Ukrainian people as they commemorate their national history.
