Representatives from several major kiosk industry organizations are scheduled to meet with the U.S. Access Board in Washington, D.C., to discuss accessibility standards for self-service technology.

The meeting, set for Sept. 15, will bring together members of The Industry Group, Kiosk Industry, and the Kiosk Manufacturer Association. Industry leaders will consult with U.S. Access Board Executive Director Sachin Dev Pavithran and his staff to address accessibility considerations for kiosks used in retail, vending, and other public-facing sectors.

The delegation will include representatives from Tech For All, Storm Interface, and Dot Inc. The KMA Accessibility Committee intends to use the meeting to reconnect with the Access Board and present industry perspectives on self-service technology. The U.S. Access Board serves as an independent federal agency that advances accessibility by developing design guidelines and standards through a structure of public members and federal department representatives.

Key topics for the discussion include practical usability for various interfaces, specifically focusing on voice and audio interactions, accessible payment processing, and the integration of emerging AI-assisted technologies. The industry’s objective is to ensure that kiosks and other self-service systems provide universal access, allowing individuals of all abilities to complete transactions and access services independently in both retail and public environments.

In addition to the upcoming meeting, the Kiosk Industry has published three complimentary executive briefings intended for retail leaders. Developed by DeAnn Campbell and Barney Stacher of RetailOCD, the briefings include titles such as The Intelligent Store Endpoint, The Last 10 Feet of Retail: 2027 Opportunity Map, and the Self-Checkout Executive Readiness Scorecard.

Furthermore, Retail Systems has reported 22 vending-related requests for proposals since its previous listing on July 17, 2026. A new RetailNOW 2026 report, authored by Elliot Maras, has also been made available online.
