Actor, writer, director, and producer Arjay Jones has announced the launch of Earth Three Pictures, an independent film company aimed at creating new opportunities for talent in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area.
The new production company seeks to address a disconnect between the region’s significant creative resources and the limited professional opportunities available to local performers and filmmakers. Jones intends to leverage the area’s experienced talent, diverse production resources, and historic locations to develop original motion pictures.
Earth Three Pictures will focus on various genres, including historical drama, psychological thriller, suspense, and horror. The company plans to prioritize original concepts and reimagined stories that feature distinctive characters and emotional depth.
The company’s inaugural project is a historical horror feature titled The Last Witch. Inspired by the events of the Salem witch trials in colonial New England, the film uses a supernatural premise to examine themes of fear, accusation, and the consequences of public hysteria. A proof-of-concept production is currently in development as a preliminary step toward full financing.
Jones, whose film Self Tape was a semifinalist at the Top Shorts Film Festival in 2024, intends to utilize local crews, businesses, and locations whenever possible. The company’s long-term objective is to establish a sustainable independent production presence in the Mid-Atlantic, proving that original films can be successfully produced outside of the traditional Hollywood system.
