NASA prepares coverage for August total solar eclipse

© Sebastian Voortman

NASA has announced its plans to provide coverage for the total solar eclipse scheduled to occur in the Northern Hemisphere this August. The agency is coordinating efforts to monitor the upcoming astronomical event.

In addition to eclipse preparations, the agency is currently fueling the Roman Space Telescope for a launch slated for late August. NASA also intends to provide coverage for three upcoming spacewalks in the United States and will host a news conference to preview these operations.

Recent scientific findings from various missions have highlighted significant discoveries. The Curiosity Mars rover has identified a field of honeycomb textures on the Martian surface, while the Webb telescope is exploring the lineage of newly discovered distant objects. Deep space observations from the Swift observatory recently identified a wandering mega black hole shredding a star, and data from the Hubble Space Telescope suggests that star formation in the Andromeda Galaxy is winding down.

Regarding human spaceflight and safety, NASA is working to establish crew exposure limits for Martian dust and is developing an algorithm to determine risk scores for astronauts. The agency is also seeking industry input for the second phase of commercial space station development to assist with future mission planning.
