Second Chance Productions is preparing to launch an unconventional family-friendly live event in conjunction with their forthcoming film, “Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue.” Described as a “Rocky Horror Picture Show for Kids,” the event is scheduled to take place on May 18th at Magnolia Park in Upland, welcoming families to bring their dogs along for the movie experience.

Traditionally silent movie screenings will take a different approach at Second Chance Productions’ event. Live actors will perform skits, encouraging audience participation including singing, speaking, and playing with noise makers during the screening of the animated film.

Producer Amy Taylor noted the event’s intention to provide a playful atmosphere aimed at fostering family connections. The film itself tells the story of a show dog and an alley cat’s journey to reunite with their family post-cross-country move, featuring a cast including Bill Nighy, Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields, Alicia Silverstone, Al Franken, and Danny Trejo.

Partnering with the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter, the event aims to break the current record for the most dogs at a movie screening. The evening will commence with a pet fair, bounce houses, and local vendors at 6:30 pm, followed by entertainment at 7 pm and the screening at 8 pm.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter, with the film set for nationwide theatrical release in August 2024.
