New book by author John Jarzynski explores bond between hunters and dogs

© Nina Kvaltinova

Award-winning outdoors writer and lifelong beagler John Jarzynski has released his latest book, Hunting Dogs & Lessons Learned, which examines the relationship between hunters and their canine companions.

The publication serves as a collection of stories regarding family traditions, the loyalty of dogs, and the life lessons derived from time spent in nature. Jarzynski, a retired English teacher and an American Kennel Club Beagle Field Trial judge, uses his decades of experience to present stories involving various breeds, such as beagles and Labrador retrievers.

Jarzynski states that the book focuses on more than just the sport of hunting, emphasizing how dogs can teach humans about patience, resilience, gratitude, and living in the present. He suggests that the true rewards of the outdoors are found in the memories created and the values shared between generations rather than the game harvested.

Jarzynski is a recognized voice in the outdoor community, having previously authored Tally Ho: Confessions of an Old Beagler and Beagle Boy: A Lifetime with Hunting Dogs. His professional background includes serving as the vice president of the NorthEast Beagle Gundog Federation and judging nearly 250 AKC Beagle Field Trials. His writing is frequently featured in American Field Magazine and Hounds & Hunting Magazine.

Early reviews of the book suggest it has appeal for dog owners and families, moving beyond the niche of rabbit hunting to offer themes of personal growth and friendship. Hunting Dogs & Lessons Learned is currently available through major online booksellers.
